I want a Kindle 2!

amazon-kindle-2

When I got the Amazon email announcing the release of Kindle 2 on February 28, I got curious and checked out this gadget that’s taking the reading world by storm.

Slim & Lightweight: Just over 1/3 inch and 10.2 ounces.
- if you check out the Kindle 2 page, you’ll see that the Kindle is just a wee bit thinner than a pencil!

Wow…that’s a dream for a bookaholic like me esp as I agonized over excess baggage when I carted over my loot of books. With a Kindle, I can search and download up to 230,000 titles in one gadget…

Books in under 60 seconds: Get books delivered in less than 60 seconds; no PC required
- If the latest bestsellers are released in the published world at the same time as the Kindle world, then Kindle readers can be the first to read them :-)

Improved Display: Reads like real paper; now boasts 16 shades of gray for crisp images and text; even reads well in bright sunlight
- I’m *really curious* to see what a Kindle looks like because I just HATE reading off the computer screen. As I have 20/20 vision, I’d do anything to preserve my perfect eyesight. If books on Kindle reads like real paper, I’m all for it! Can’t turn the pages though…

Longer Battery Life: 25% longer battery life; read for days without recharging
- Err…I’m not a fan of electrical or electronic stuff but I guess this is a trade-off for using less paper, cutting down less trees for the love of books?

More Storage: Take your library with you; holds over 1,500 books
- Gosh, this is like taking the bookshelves from home (times 5!) with me and choosing THE book I want to read with simply one click. No more T.B.R piles of books though…

Faster Page Turns: 20% faster page turns
- This I’m guessing is an improvement of the previous Kindle technology? Not sure how 20% can be felt when you’re reading a book???

Read-to-Me: Text-to-Speech feature means Kindle can read every book, blog, magazine, and newspaper out loud.
- I think the Kindle 2 would make great gifts to homes for the blind since they can get the latest books straight from Amazon without waiting for someone to record the reading for them. How do the readers sound like? Natural or robotic?

If you’re not sure what I mean, just click on the “read aloud” function in the Adobe Acrobat Reader and you can hear it for yourself :-)

No Wireless Bills: No monthly wireless bills, data plans, or commitments. Amazon pays for Kindle’s wireless connectivity so you won’t see a monthly wireless bill.
- Eh, if Amazon’s going to pay wireless bills for me, will the Kindle 2 work in Malaysia or China too or is it meant for the US folks only???

Kindle owners – please put me out of my misery already!!!
